Sling TV debuted on Apple TV with a brand new interface. The new set-up is a major change in look and feel from the interfaces found on Roku, Fire TV and Android TV as well as tablets and computers. besides the navigation with the touch remote on the Apple TV itself which takes some getting used to we found the new interface very easy to use and much easier to navigate than the previous interfaces. New Sling TV Interface For Apple TV might be the best one out. You can see it in action via the video at the bottom of the story.
Here are some of the new features
Apple TV apps have a noticeable form factor across apps that you just don’t see with other devices. A horizontal menu similar to a windows or Mac computer where users will find easy access to all controls. This means that users will not have to fumble with different buttons to find the settings menus and so on.
Search Option Is on Screen
In other interfaces, the search menu was somewhat buried in the interface and had to be opened via pressing buttons on a remote such as “OK” or the central button on the Fire TV. With the Apple TV search is found right at the top of the screen. This is not a major innovation but I like having options like that out front.
My TV on the Apple TV Sling TV Interface is like a central hub for the service. There, users can choose favorites from the entire lineup of channels for quick access. If you don’t want to bounce around menus looking for TNT (Is it family?, Is it entertainment?) then you can just pop it into favorites and jump to it in one click. My TV also allows you to quickly access your favorite shows. this is an excellent feature that allows users to personalize their experience. Another helpful feature is that Sling TV will also allow users to see what they have been watching recently and finish any on-demand programming.
New Genre Menus
Genres were always accessible via the basic guide interface on other Sling TV setups but the new
drop down menu style guide allows users to populate the guide with only the genres that they wantto browse at the time. If you are only interested in displaying sports and movie options just select them. Users can still choose to display all of the channels at one time but this helps cut through the clutter. It should be helpful for families with different tastes. If you like Home improvement content no need to bounce through Novelas and kids shows to find it.
New Settings menu
The new sling TV settings menu is a fixture at the top of the interface and lets users quickly sign in and out of their account, set parental controls and monitor the strength and type of connection they are accessing.
Netflix like subject grid
When users simply select On Now they are presented with not only a horizontal listing of their channels but a helpful guide based on subjects or genres. Each category be it sports, entertainment etc populates with programming from multiple channels for quick access. This includes short-form content from options like Newsy.
It does not have a constant feed
One somewhat distracting feature of the Sling TV interface on other devices is that something is always on. Users can now look for content without something droning in the background or taking
up space on the screen.
Browse Other Channels While Watching
This is a feature much more like a typical digital TV experience. A quick swipe from the bottom will populate the lower portion of the screen with a menu that allows users to search the rest of the channel lineup.
