Haystack TV, a recent”Editor’s Choice” on Google Play, added CBS Interactive, Newsy, and Meredith to its services opening up new options to viewers who utilize the streaming news aggregator to keep connected on the run and via set-top boxes.

The new sources will be worked into the multiple feeds that allow Haystack TV, which is backed by the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and Stanford StartX, to personalize news for each viewer using a mix of artificial intelligence, big data technologies, and editorial curation to create custom newscasts. In a new twist on the format, the news app is starting to integrate local news channels available in 8 cities and counting in order to personalize the feed’s information more than ever before. That and a new single sign-in feature to keep the story up to date on all of a users’ devices will help streamline the news consumption options for a lot of people.

Finding new ways to add Kodi to the Fire TV is a popular past time. The CetusPlay app might be the most clever way to add Kodi and a number of apps to the Fire TV I have ever seen. The app for Android devices is both a remote control app and side loading app in one.  In order to get the app you can download it from the Google Play store. You will need a phone or tablet.

How to add Kodi to the Fire TV with the CetusPlay app

Start by downloading The CetusPlay app to your Android device Here

CetusPlay is a very easy app to use for sideloading new apps to the Fire TV.

younity Gives Consumers Access to ALL Content Across ALL Devices Without Sync or Config

From Press Release

SAN DIEGO — November 29, 2016 — Younity today launched the software industry’s first unified, desktop-to-desktop home media server. Previously only desktop-to-mobile, younity’s patented desktop software unifies all of your devices, giving users access to all of their files and content from any device via a single Netflix-like user interface. It requires no syncing, configuration, management, or uploading to the cloud.

The need is overwhelming. Today there are 7.3 devices per person in the US, with a projected increase to 12.3 in 2020, according to Cisco. We can also see a rising correlation between ownership of wifi-connected devices and content fragmentation in the consumer market. Younity solves this problem by unifying across all desktop and mobile devices, operating systems, and storage locations.

“younity caters to the new reality of computing,” said younity cofounder and CEO Erik Caso, “one where we use multiple devices on a daily basis — yet we have limited ability to access and integrate our content across all our devices.”

Users can stream movies stored on their home computer while they are away, merge and listen to music spread across their computers, access their entire photo library, or edit a document stored on a work computer from any home computer.

To date other services have focused on storage as the solution to the access problem. For the billions of people who own a computer, plus several more devices, it’s no longer about where their files are located, but rather what device they would like to use at the moment. Younity addresses this problem and allows people to access their files more spontaneously.

Caso continued, “younity users have already unified 2.5 billion files, representing 18 petabytes of content. With this launch we will ultimately close the loop on multi-device unification, further decoupling access from storage.” younity works cross-platform, regardless of operating system, enabling Android, iOS, Mac and PC users to connect simultaneously.

Cinemax will also cost $5.00.

HBO is the name for premium as far as most viewers go.

Direct TV Now will be offering HBO for less than any other video service as part of the DirectTV Now offering. Sling TV and PlayStation Vue offer HBO for $15.00, which matches the price of HBO Now, the HBO Internet offering. The ability to offer HBO for that price may well be a differentiator in the marketplace, which promises to grow over time. Customers can also add Cinemax for $5.00 also. That is what used to amount to a major premium channel investment for the cost of Netflix.

The service is offering early adopters over 100 channels for $35 which they promise to give customers a premium offering as opposed to chocking it full of public access and music channels.

  • Live a Little – $35 / month (60+ channels)
  • Just Right – $50 / month (80+ channels)
  • Go Big – $60 / month (100+ channels)
  • Gotta Have it – $70 / month (120+ channels)

Apple TV Generation 4

There has been a lot of talk concerning DirectTV Now and a 100 channel lineup offer for $35.00. This is something that you can in fact get but only customers who sign up for the service right away will in fact receive that package at that price until they decide to drop the service. But if customers do not jump in early they will only be able to get a 60 channel package for $35.00. This clears up what had been a constantly reported price for the package that seemed too good to be true. it makes good sense to offer the deal to early adopters yet offer it for a limited time, because it may not be cost effective otherwise. So if you want DirectTV Now for a good price you best get on the bus early.

After the promotional period prices will look like this:

  • Live a Little – $35 / month (60+ channels)
  • Just Right – $50 / month (80+ channels)
  • Go Big – $60 / month (100+ channels)
  • Gotta Have it – $70 / month (120+ channels)

Cloud service fills in important gap

Does Sling TV Offer DVR? It will Soon. Sling TV announced that it will begin a beta program for a cloud-based DVR for Roku users. The DVR will allow users to record 100 hours of content. The program will be invitation only while it is being tested. The announcement appears to be a reaction to PlayOn Cloud and PlayStation Vue service based on a quote from Sling TV CEO Roger Lynch.

““Unlike other OTT services, we’re delivering a true cloud DVR with no 28-day restriction on your recordings, marking another win for Sling TV and our customers,” said  Lynch. “Two years ago we became the first live OTT provider, and we continue to innovate and bring the best experience to our customers.”

Whether the new feature was spurred by competition or not the new offering should be a popular feature. We have heard from a number of readers asking if there was a way to record Sling TV and the service will allow the company to offer one of cable TV’s most well-liked features.

Features include:

  • Availability – Cloud DVR will be available across all Roku devices to beta customers who subscribe to the single-stream service, Sling Orange, and/or the multi-stream service, Sling Blue.
  • Entertainment on your time – Record movies, episodes or full series, with the ability to pause, rewind or fast-forward recorded content. DVR functionality not available on all channels.
  • Conflict-free recording – Users may record multiple programs simultaneously, with no recording conflicts.
  • Easy access – DVR content is integrated directly into Sling TV’s “My TV” screen for immediate access to recordings.
  • Simple space management – Sling TV automatically manages DVR space to make room for new recordings by deleting the oldest ‘watched’ recording when capacity is full.
  • More features to come – Sling TV will continue to evolve the cloud DVR throughout the beta time period based on customer feedback and usage behavior. DVR features planned for future development include the ability to upgrade storage space and protect recordings.

The Roku Express+ is a dynamite little (and we emphasize little) media player aimed at beginners in the streaming world and more specifically Walmart shoppers. The device sports all of Roku’s hallmarks including the multi-channel content search, thousands of available streaming channel options, an organized and categorized channel store, simple vertical interface and even more, a system that does not favor one content provider over the other which differentiates it from all of its other competitors Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV. and the Android TV platform which all push content from their own properties.
