The New software will allow users to save programming on the Shield’s hard drive which will be a big win for those with the pro model. Tablo DROID will be compatible with Tablo TUNER, a new dual-tuner USB dongle or the Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD USB tuner stick.

“Since 2013, Nuvyyo has been focused on making Tablo the defacto app for live TV on the widest variety of internet-connected screens,” said Grant Hall, CEO at Nuvyyo, the makers of Tablo. “Today’s announcements strengthen that commitment and provide consumers with even more choice in how they watch and record Over-the-Air HDTV.”

Tablo’s DROID app will be free to download from the Google Play store and will include a free 30-day trial of Tablo’s guide data subscription. After the trial, users can continue to watch live TV and set manual recordings without a subscription. Nuvyyo plans to release the DROID app to the Google Play store and make the TUNER stick available for purchase via the Tablo web store in Q2 of 2017.

Tablo LIVE ‘Antenna Anywhere’ Stick
The Tablo LIVE ‘antenna anywhere’ stick is a single-tuner WiFi device that turns any OTA antenna into a smart antenna, enabling cord cutters to distribute OTA HDTV programming over their home network via WiFi. With Tablo LIVE, consumers can place their antenna anywhere in their home to ensure the best possible positioning for OTA reception and watch live HDTV programming via Tablo apps (www.tablotv.com/apps) on mobile devices and streaming set-top-boxes.

Apps for Tablo LIVE will have a user-friendly interface and allow consumers browse an on-screen 24 hour grid guide with episode and series details as well as launch live broadcast TV streams. Tablo LIVE apps will be free to download and no guide data subscription will be required.

The Tablo LIVE ‘antenna anywhere’ stick is expected to be available in Q2 2017 with an anticipated MSRP of $99 USD.

Tablo CLOUD will be subscription-based and offer a set number of hours of cloud DVR storage for a monthly fee. Pricing, plans and availability will be announced at launch.

Android TV has gotten a major push thus far in 2017 with Sling TV announcing both the Sling optimized device program featuring the Mi Box and the rollout of the Air TV device, an Android TV device that emphasizes Sling TV over all other streaming Platforms. The thing that sets Air TV apart though is that it will integrate OTA channels into Sling TVs channel lineup to allow users to acces both the live cable channels and local network content all in one place. It will finally allow users to watch local channels on Sling TV with an Antenna

But what if the antenna doesn’t work?
Air TV recommends customers use a professional installer to make sure that any outdoor antenna performs optimally and help users avoid pixelation.  More info can be found on its website here

Man in high CastleAmazon finally has a certifiable hit show to go along with Transparent. The Man In The High Castle which was the runaway hit of Amazon’s Pilot season last year is in the midst of its second season and will continue to show Americans what would have happened had the greatest generation not been up to the task.

The series is available for free to Amazon Prime Subscribers.

Right now there are three companies offering cable alternatives via live streaming services. Sling TV, PlayStation Vue and DirecTV Now. All three services offer a similar group of channels at varying prices but no one service has really taken the market. There are a number of reasons why this has not happened from people’s lack of understanding as to what the services do to a reluctance to drop traditional pay services. But there are some things that providers can put into place that will take things to the next level. The service that can pull together these features first will have a big edge against the competition.

The Best Live TV Streaming Service Will Do These Things

Boasting nearly a full week of superhero programming Starting Monday with Supergirl and finishing with the time travelling Legends of Tomorrow, The CW App, which is a free ad-supported outlet to the network’s broadcast network, has quickly risen the ranks on Roku’s Movies & TV Section. Where a Roku channel sits in its respective section is a major indicator of an offerings popularity and is based on factors like user ratings and rate of subscriptions. For instance, looking at the top of the TV and Movies section the very first app on the top left corner is predictably Netflix with 1,479,197 ratings next in line is Hulu at 284,645 and behind it Amazon Video with 291,503.

More Roku Numerology
The top 3 are followed by Sling Television, TWC and HBO Go. In just a few months the CW channel has 4,562 ratings and has a 4 1/2 star average user rating. By this estimation based on its place in the lineup, CW may currently be in the top 10-13 or at least trending in popularity. For some perspective, the channel is one out of 666 in Movies and TV. (Roku might want to approve another TV channel soon…just saying) It’s digital spinoff, CW Seed it should be noted is in slot 58. As a comparison, the bottom 3 selection are “War Movies”, with 4 ratings and 11 film selections, du View, a TV everywhere app based out of the United Arab Emirates and Victory Westerns on demand, a channel with a monthly charge of $2.99 that specializes in films from the 1930s 40s and 50s according to Roku Guide. So you can see how placement can be a judge of popularity. Furthermore, CW is listed in Roku’s most popular section along with other you might expect including again Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video along with 24 other household names like Pandora, Watch ESPN and PBS. It should be noted that there is a healthy mix of TV everywhere channels and free offerings.

Where does it rank on Fire TV and Apple TV
At this point we do not know a similar way to track an app’s popularity on Apple TV or Fire TV, but if it shows this kind of popularity on Roku’s platform it is at least a safe bet that the programming is popular on others too. This should come as no surprise at all. CW is the first network to offer all of its top shows via an online app that does not require a monthly fee like say CBS All Access (CBS owns CW), Hulu, which is home to many network favorites or the numerous Network TV apps like ABC, NBC and Fox Now. The last three mentioned do not require a monthly fee but the majority of the programming on the channels is only accessible for those who have a cable login from a participating provider.

When will other networks get with the program?
We have expressed hope that if the CW app were to be successful, that ABC, NBC and Fox may one day eschew the TV everywhere model or at least provide a free version of their TV apps. We may be aways from this happening, if ever, but streaming is still a baby when it comes to the legacy TV space. Till then its up, up and away for the CW as fans count down to the heavily promoted crossover between Arrow, Supergirl, Flash and Legends of Tomorow.

The Tablo Is a different take on the DVR.
XBOX is the first game system to have a Tablo app.

Ottawa, ON—November 15, 2016 — For those looking to add DVR and live TV To XBOX Tablo is the device they have been waiting for. Nuvyyo, maker of the Tablo Over-the-Air (OTA) HDTV DVR is bringing its app to Xbox. Users will be able to access an easy-to-use interface for live TV and record shows to watch later. The app is available in the Xbox App Store.

“Many cord cutters were left without an OTA DVR option for their gaming system of choice when Microsoft put their project plans on hold,” said Grant Hall, CEO at Nuvyyo, the makers of Tablo. “We are excited to provide the gaming community with a Tablo App for Xbox One, bringing us even closer to our goal of becoming the universal app for live TV and recorded broadcast programs on all your favorite devices.”

Tablo App for Xbox One
Is using a DVR on XBOX as simple as downloading an App? No Users must actually own a physical Tablo unit. The unit is attached to a user’s antenna and connected to the user’s router via an Ethernet cable or a wireless connection. Users will be able to use their XBOX controller in order to interact with the DVR.

Version 1.0 of the Tablo App for Xbox delivers the majority of Tablo’s familiar screens and features including playback of Live TV and recordings, Netflix-style TV guides for broadcast content discovery and search, as well as popular features including pausing of Live TV, preview-enabled fast-forward commercial skipping, and much more.

Additional filters and features will be added via app updates in the coming months.

Windows Getting Tablo App
Windows users who have been limited to using Tablo’s web based application to access programming will be happy to know that those days are over, at least for those with the latest version of Windows 10. The new app can be used on PCs running the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition operating system.  A link to the Tablo app for Xbox and Windows 10 is available at www.TabloTV.com/apps.

Amazon is one of Roku’s oldest video partners. In, fact Roku was one of the first if not the first to offer Amazon Video as a service on televisions. The Channel has had a few facelifts over time but its

latest new refresh is a total departure from the look that had been in place before. The new app has basically lifted the look and feel of the Amazon Fire TV and put it into a self-contained app on the Roku. Its setup is nearly identical in that it uses a vertical menu based on the left side of the screen and presents a full screen of choices from its entire library on the right side of the screen.

The home screen displays movies and TV shows that are available via Amazon Prime as well as on-demand transactional titles. There are also a number of categories based on watching habits, (movies Like…..) (TV Shows Like….) as well as genre-based categories. There are a number of otheramazon-video-new-app-filters submenus within each movie and TV show categorys.

A great feature of the new app is a simple filter system that allows users to list the movies or TV shows that are available with Prime absent on demand titles. This helps users decide whether they want to rent a movie or utilize their Prime accounts for free streaming. The refresh is one of the most impressive new apps for the Roku platform I have ever seen.

What it does not include
Unlike the actual Fire TV the Amazon App does not include access to Amazon Music, Free Time, games or the Cloud drive. The app also does not allow for voice search or integrate Alexa. This is still a Roku after all, even if it looks like a Fire TV. With the heft Amazon has put behind a video app on a competitor’s device we can only wonder what new bells and whistles will be available when the company refreshes its signature Fire TV set-top box. See our video overview bellow.

A Playboy channel On Roku? This would probably stun you if it was not for the fact that PlayBoy no longer features nude pictorials. In fact, this channel which is officially called “Playboy Now” is much more about the articles. The channel which does not appear to contain any actual nudity. Instead, the Roku Playboy Channel features short-form content to promote both its models as well as lifestyle stories, food, tech and things of that nature. It is in some ways a video magazine.

There are a number of TV streaming sources these days, but no network has allowed users to view as much content as the upcoming CW app will with no strings attached. The app which will soon be available for Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, XBOX, Amazon Fire TV as well as Android and IOS devices (CW has long had apps for mobile devices) will usher in a new day for the young trending network and could constitute the perfect marriage between audience and provider. Here’s hoping that the add supported app proves popular going forward because right now none of the major broadcast networks offer such an option without requiring authentication or in the case of CBS (which owns the CW), a monthly fee. Though to be fair CBS All Access does include a live stream in many markets.

CW will be the first tv network app aimed directly at cord-nevers
CW has a younger audience on average than that of the other broadcast networks which is reflected in its teen-centered programming. While people of many age groups can appreciate post-apocalyptic stories like “The 100” or may enjoy zombie based melodramas there is no doubt that a younger demographic is the target. Study after study has shown that the biggest group of people without cable are the millennials who may well have bristled at the idea of having their favorite titles hidden behind the pay-TV wall.

Is it a big loss for Hulu?
Hulu had been the OTT next day home of CW’s programming up until now and it will be interesting to see if the loss of shows like The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow will affect it going forward. I can say for sure on a personal level that Hulu was my primary way to catch up on the comic book based shows last season. Hulu is still a source for the majority of current Fox, NBC and ABC titles. The threat to the app is more down the line as viewers who would have otherwise continued to use the platform may drift away and leave the service behind or become accustomed to getting their content on set-top boxes without paying for it.

CW App Could Prevent Piracy
We would be quite surprised if piracy was not a concern of the folks at CW. Considering the popularity of Internet piracy with the tech-savvy millennial generation limiting options to view its content could have led to surge in illegal activity surrounding its programming. By making the content easy to acquire via convenient, legal and ethical means the network will likely head off a number of problems going forward. Netflix who signed a new deal for post season streaming rights with the CW has actually used statistics on heavily pirated shows to help it choose series to add to its library counting on the idea that the content would drive subscribers where it to be given a  home where it could be found simply and safely.

So for all who hope for a day where one can view more TV programming subscription free you should all be pulling for the CW app to succeed.  The CW Streaming App Could Change TV Streaming in great ways for cord cutters and help continue to tear away at the pay TV model.

What is the best way to cut the cord? There is not one actual answer to that question. Find a Facebook group on the subject, find a bulletin board on the subject and ask the question. You will get so many half responses from the names of programs that you don’t recognize to hardware that might be vaguely familiar and of course the suggestion of Netflix etc. As many people as there are there are that many suggestions. It’s like saying “How can I get rid of this cold”. The Perfect Cord Cutting Solution Does Not Exist.
