ESPN+ A Big WInner For Disney

Disney’s direct-to-consumer offering, ESPN+ is proving to be a wise investment. The service which launched in April of 2018 is not a substitute for ESPN, but is a substantial service that includes out-of-market NHL matchups, CFL Football, 3rd-tier rights for college sports, the ESPN 30 for 30 library and more.

Disney recently announced that the service now has 22.3 million subscribers. Disney also now includes ESPN+ for customers who sign up for Hulu’s live TV service, which serves as a cable replacement. ESPN+ also serves as a portal to extra content via the ESPN website taking over what used to be called ESPN Insider.

While ESPN+ is not the home of blockbuster NFL or Key College Football matchups its offerings include MLB games, NHL, MLS and a lot more. Disney announced this week the advertising around the NHL, which included ESPN+ Walt Disney, exceeded initial expectations.

Expect to see more news from this streaming service as the TV world continues to change.
