HBO Max Getting More Expensive

HBO Max

HBO Max, which is on its way to being combined with Discovery+ has increased its price for the first time in two years. Variety reported an increase of one dollar for users who pay for the ad-free tier of the premium streamer. Starting in February that will bring the cost to $15.99 per month. The service issued a statement saying;

“This price increase of one dollar will allow us to continue to invest in providing even more culture-defining programming and improving our customer experience for all users,”

Recently it was announced that the company was done with the controversial cost-cutting measures that saw series and movies removed from the service in both the US and other parts of the world. Maybe the price increase is a sign that the company in fact does plan to invest in new original programming going forward. Of course, it might also be another strategy to pull in more money as it continues to work to eliminate the debt it inherited when Discovery Networks and Warner Brothers merged to become Warner Brothers Discovery.

Numerous other streaming services have raised prices recently including Fubo TV, which added new RSNs from Bally Sports to the lineup as well as Disney+ in conjunction with the launch of its ad-supported service. The real news in the industry would be that a service was getting less expensive.
