NBC Sports Network Will Go To Streaming

NBC Sports RSNs are not dead. While Comcast shuttered the NBC Sports Network as a standalone cable channel last year the regional sports networks around the country are set to get another run at life as subscription services.

Accoring to Nexttv NBC’s plans for a DTC RSN product emerged Monday when Valari Dobson Staab was named chairman of NBCUniversal Local. The RSNs were integrated with the NBC/Telemundo owned stations last year.

Regional Sports Networks have been hit hard by cord cutting leaving owners to scramble. It is unknown exactly how NBC might integrate these choices. With the growing Peacock streaming service and the NBC Sports apps the company already has platforms in place that could become the launch pad for such an offering.
