Xumo App Rebrands What Is Xumo Play?

When Comcast announced that they would be launching new branded TVs and call them Xumo TVs it also announced that the free streaming app Xumo would also be getting a new name. The anticipated launch of the new TVs came last week at CES via Hisense, and with it the Xumo app has its new branding as well. Anybody who had the Xumo app before will now find that the app is called Xumo Play. The app has not changed much aside from the cosmetic shift. For instance there is a new loading graphic. It also appears that the basic graphics have been updated, though in all reality that might have occurred ahead of the switch and just not been noticed on our part.

Either way, the new app is really the old app you knew and used. The name change helps to separate the app itself from the streaming brand that Comcast is trying to establish outside of its recognized footprint. The company has not said why it moved from the term XClass, which is how its TV’s, which debuted with Hisense as an early partner. But going forward all TVs using the Comcast powered operating system as well as its set-top boxes will be branded as Xumo TV’s and Xumo boxes.
