Warner Bros Discovery Has New Sports Chief

Warner Bros Discovery will step forward in its development as a sports property under the leadership of  Luis Silberwasser, a former exec at Discovery, Telemundo and most recently TelevisaUnivision, as chairman and CEO of its sports division. He will report directly to David Zaslav, with whom he has a long-running business relationship.

The new company which recently began formal operations after regulatory approval that combined Warner Media and Discovery Networks has a large sports portfolio based in the US around NBA coverage on TNT, MLB coverage on TBS and major deals in Europe that include The Olympics,  Olympics, PGA Tour, ATP World Tour, as well as cycling, tennis and soccer matches. In Latin American countries, sports rights include UEFA and several local soccer leagues.

The company has yet to explain just how all of its assets, which include the evolving DC Studios, HBO Max, Discoveryy+ and more will work together.

“I am delighted to join Warner Bros Discovery during an exciting and innovative time, especially for its newly integrated global sports business and the great team at the company which boasts some of the most compelling on-air talent, world-class production values, and the broadest media rights in the world,” Silberwasser said.

The move is the latest as the new mega-media company charts its course moving forward.
