Amazon Fire TV Losing Firefox Browser

Fire TV Home Screen

Fire TV is unique in the streaming device space because of its native ability to support browsers made for TV devices. One of the browsers that it has utilized is the Firefox browser from Mozilla. While Firefox had fallen by the wayside when it comes to desktop browsing the Fire TV browser has proven to be very useful over time as a way to access content that is not built into the Fire TV via official apps. It was one of the easiest workarounds when Amazon lost the YouTube app for instance.

But on April 30 Firefox will no longer be supported on Fire TV devices and Echo Show devices. This is unfortunate because the browser is easy to use and features favorites and bookmarks to make jumping back into things easy. When it launched it was considerably more user-friendly than Amazon’s own Silk browser. The good news is that the Silk browser on Amazon has been vastly improved over the years and now features bookmarks and other easy to access options.

Users who currently have the Firefox browser will keep it, but after April 30 the app will no longer be available in the Fire TV app store nor on the Echo Show.
