Warner Media announced today that HBO Max will act as its major distribution arm in the face of the problems in the movie theater industry brought on by COVID-19. The company will release many of its highly anticipated films on the streaming platform at the same time that they debut on the big screen. These releases will include Dune. The upcoming overall film lineup also includes “Matrix 4,” “In The Heights,” “Space Jam: A New Legacy,” and the “Sopranos” prequel film “The Many Saints of Newark.”
There are persistent rumors that the next installment in the Legendary Monsterverse Godzilla Vs King Kong will also stream on HBO Max during its theatrical release.
The approach will allow the films to stream on HBO Max for 1 month before then playing at theaters again.
This move makes HBO Max a must-have for anybody who has been looking to see these films. And the fact that they are streaming on HBO Max and not simply via HBO’s linear service will mean that those who wish to see them will have to activate the service, which for tv subscribers is free with their subscription.
the move puts even more of a focus on the Roku HBO Max fight as it continues to drag on.
