HBO Max earned the ire of the creative community when it canceled plans to release a nearly finished production of a long-planned Batgirl movie in 2022. The company did so as a cost-cutting move and in the process prevented the movie from ever being shown anywhere else.
Netflix is doing something similar though not nearly as drastic with two titles that would have otherwise been Netflix-exclusive movies. The projects, Inheritance, starring Peyton List and Rachel Nichols and House/Wife, a story about the dangers of putting too much faith in smart technology led by Alice Braga and Kris Holden-Ried, will not be locked away forever. Both can be marketed to other streaming platforms.
There is no word as to whether Netflix has plans to pull any other completed projects going forward.
