Hillbilly Elegy, a movie based on the book by JD Vance has received a big bump in views on Netflix. The push began after Donald Trump announced that Vance will be his vice presidential candidate for the 2024 election.
The 2020 film is not new to Netflix this week, but a quick search for Vance will pull up only a few notable things about his public life. One is that he is a sitting senator in his first term in elected office and the other is that he wrote the book Hillbilly Elegy and now of course there is the added notoriety of being imposed in the middle of a closely watched presidential contest days after an assassination attempt aimed at his running mate. So it appears that people are checking out the story, which is based at least partially on his own experiences growing up, to get a feel for his own story.
The book itself is also featured in Prime Day sales and is listed as a best seller on the website.
