HBO Max at the time of this writing does not have an app for Roku. This has been a source of frustration for many people. Well there is good news for Windows users. There is a service called PlayOn that makes apps for Roku and other streaming devices that will allow you to see everything on HBO Max and even record content from the service and many other streaming services so that if they leave the service you will still have it.
If you would like to try out PlayOn you can download it here. Remember though, this does require a Windows PC. That means Mac users still can’t use it.

i am only able to see video – audio is comming thru pc not tv. Do you have to record to get sound.
