While Robert Downey Jr. is best known for his award-winning career as an actor and producer, he also avidly addresses climate change via scalable technologies that help restore the planet. Now, Downey will combine this passion with classic car restorations to create eco-friendly automobiles.
In an all-new discovery+ original series set to launch later this year, Downey’s Dream Cars (wt), Downey and a team of experts restore six classic cars from Robert’s own collection to make them more eco-friendly; updating them into the new millennium while preserving the power and style that made these vintage automobiles so legendary to begin with.
This automotive transformation series will be the second project out of Team Downey for discovery+. The Bond is an upcoming four-part series that will tell the remarkable, moving, and surprising stories of fascinating characters from all walks of life who have formed deep bonds with creatures from across the animal kingdom.
“The working relationship we have with Robert Downey Jr. and Team Downey represents the best of what Discovery programming can offer,” said Nancy Daniels, Chief Brand Officer, Discovery and Factual. “We are excited to bring audiences a series that shows the spirit of who Downey is and puts his passion for the environment center stage. That, and who better than Robert Downey Jr. to make eco-friendly cars look this good?”
“My goal is to showcase that it’s possible to keep the integrity of classic cars while leveraging new tech and innovation to make them more eco-friendly. I’m thrilled audiences will get to see this series on discovery+ later this year,” said Downey.
Downey’s Dream Cars (wt) will follow Downey as he spearheads the overhaul of some of the most prized cars in his collection. While he is engaged in this unique restoration process, Downey also investigates the future of mobility, seeking guidance from some of the most brilliant minds working today to imagine the next era of personal transportation. It all adds up to a “car show” unlike any other – one that challenges a new generation to find 21-st century inspiration in classic cars. Together, Downey and audiences will not only look back at the bold and beautiful designs of the past, but also imagine the next 10, 20, or even 100 years of automotive innovation to come.
