The standoff between Newsmax and DirecTV has been resolved. The news option will be back on DirecTV, DirecTV Stream and U-Verse on Thursday putting an end to a heated dispute that made its way into congressional discussions over claims that the absence was for political reasons. It was money reasons. No financial numbers were shared but the primary reason the network was dropped in the first place was that the network wanted more money to be offered through the various TV providers than the providers felt it was worth. To counter the argument that it was a left VS right fight DTV etc even added a new conservative news offering in place of Newsmax.
Newsmax is actually widely available for free via its website and apps IOS and Android and major streaming platforms like Roku along with being included in many of the free streaming platforms such as Pluto TV, XUMO, Plex, and Distro TV. This was part of the problem with the standoff between the two parties. The providers did not want to pay an increased cost for a channel that was not exclusively a pay TV option. In response, Newsmax announced that it would be ending the free streaming access to the service (with no date given) seemingly as a way to pressure the parties into a new deal. As of today all of the free streams are still available.
