People Have Been Streaming The Hits This Year

Earlier this year, Plex launched two new features that brought powerful search engines into play on streaming platforms and a way to keep their interests all in one place no matter what streaming device they are using. The discover makes it easy to search for any title, no matter where it’s streaming and with the Plex Universal Watchlist, users get a single central watchlist that tracks any movie or show regardless of where the content is available.

As streamers have been taking advantage of the new bells and whistles Plex has been able to pick up on some trends from this summer leading into the fall.

Streaming Trends, July 1 – September 30, 2022

Insights based on Q3 Metrics from Plex: 

Plex saw 14 million user searches in the Plex Discover tab. This led to 1.4 billion + minutes watched. The watch list proved super popular as well seeing users add  7.5M titles with movies making up 79% of the listings.

Top TV Shows Added to Watchlists

  1. House of the Dragon
  2. Stranger Things

It looks like Plex’s users were in a serious mood as the world outside got hotter. While summertime is the season of blow it all up blockbusters it turned out that at home viewers might have been searching for more drama. While action pulled made up 17% of user watchlist drama in fact led all genres with 22% of the selections.

Not surprisingly the number one title searched this summer was also the number one movie in America this year. Tom Cruise’s Top Gun Maverick roared to number one but in general the top titles showed a great deal of diversity at the top.
