Looking to continue to expand past a server based only experience Plex announced today that it has partnered with Legendary Television Distribution, LLC to add a selection of digital features and television programs to its ad-supported video on demand (AVOD) library, which is planned to be available to consumers later this year.
“Our partnership with Legendary enables us to expand our offering with both digital features and TV titles, and further diversifies our catalogue of AVOD content when we launch,” said Keith Valory, CEO of Plex. “We are working to create a unified, beautiful app where all types of content are available in one place. We are partnering with many well-known studios to bring consumers the best possible entertainment experience, consistently across all screens, big and small.”
The addition of Legendary’s titles to the Plex library follows the previously announced agreements with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution and Lionsgate. Collectively these agreements well-position Plex as a one-stop media solution, providing more types of content into one app than any other service. Plex’s AVOD library will sit alongside already available content such as live and recorded over-the-air television, trustworthy news, popular web shows, podcasts, and over 60 million HiFi streaming music tracks.
Plex has long been a popular way to organize digital media whether it be music, movies TV shows or pictures, but in the past year it has sought to become more multifaceted in its approach. As more partners get involved the software will continue to offer more and more perks.
