Disney dropped a bomb a few weeks ago with a behemoth-sized selection of new shows coming to Disney+ starting in January 2021. Among these shows were a dozen Marvel shows continuing the MCU.
With Disney also taking full control of Hulu’s streaming, there may even be a chance we see sports on the channel. This would be huge for sports sites and changes the streaming landscape.
But with that said, we look forward to the big shows coming from the MCU.
Power Ranking: the Disney+ Marvel shows based on intrigue
Ranking these shows were tough, but we factored in each show’s potential for either offering something new to the MCU or elevating its elements.
- What If…?
Expected release: Summer 2021
The only animated show on this list, What If…? explores how things would have gone differently if major events played out differently in the MCU.
Don’t worry, all the characters will be voiced by their live-action counterparts so yes, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans are back in the MCU! Somewhat.
- The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special
Expected release: November/December 2022
The Guardians finally return to the MCU in what should be a prequel to the highly-anticipated Vol. 3. And yes, James Gunn will be directing this project, which will have the entire crew of Guardians… except for Gamora.
No word has become official if Zoe Saldana will return to reprise her role. We expect that she will probably be here as a nice surprise for Star-Lord.
- She-Hulk
Expected release: 2022
The Hulk’s cousin gets her own show as Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany stars as Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk: lawyer by day, crime-smashing green superhero by night.
Mark Ruffalo will make appearances as Bruce Banner (or Hulk) and surprisingly, Tim Roth will return as Emil Blonsky/Abomination from The Incredible Hulk. Smashing reveal!

- Hawkeye
Expected release: Late 2021
We didn’t know what to expect when this first got announced last year but then word broke out that Hailee Steinfeld would play Kate Bishop a.k.a.the new Hawkeye.
Few actresses can elevate a character’s presence, but Steinfeld is on that short list. Jeremy Renner returns as the original Hawkeye who will play the role of mentor.
- Ironheart
Expected release: 2022
Fans are still trying to move on from an MCU without Robert Downey Jr., but Dominique Thorne isn’t trying to replace Iron Man. She’s Riri Williams a.k.a. Ironheart, a totally different character worthy of her own acclaim.
A child prodigy not unlike Peter Parker, Williams has a different background and will add a new exciting layer to the genius superheroes subspecies.
- Armor Wars
Expected release: 2022
Yes! Now this is a War Machine story. James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) finally gets to shine in this live-action adaptation of one of Iron Man’s most popular story arcs.
Armor Wars has the potential to be the most explosive, literally, show of the list. Expect epic fight scenes inspired from your favourite science fiction shows.
- The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Expected release: March 19, 2021
There is a lot to love with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. This should be part buddy cop TV and part blockbuster with unbelievable action sequences like Civil War and Winter Soldier.
Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier) already displayed their chemistry in previous films and they get to flesh it out more here.
- WandaVision
Expected release: January 15, 2021
The only thing to expect here is the unexpected. Combine Wanda Maximoff’s (Elisabeth Olson) reality bending with the existential enigma in the form of a super-droid, Vision (Paul Bettany) and you’ve got a… 1950s sitcom?
As the first show out of Phase Four, WandaVision happens directly after Avengers: Endgame and should answer some burning questions about Vision’s fate and the state of the MCU.
- Loki
Expected release: May 2021
Everyone, especially Loki (Tom Hiddleston) agrees that he’s finally gotten the show he deserves. Like WandaVision, Loki will have some much-sought answers on how he fits into the main MCU continuity.
Trailers have so far been as cryptic as the great deceiver himself, but we couldn’t help but feel the series is inspired by a mixture of fantasy, satire,, and cyberpunk. Huh? Exactly.

- Secret Invasion
Expected release: 2022
Comic book fans know how immense this series’ potential is. Simply put: if Marvel Studios wanted to retcon or alter anything from the previous 12 years, they could with this show.
Without providing potential spoilers: Skrulls have secretly been posing as different MCU characters from the past.
- Ms. Marvel
Expected release: Late 2021
It’s not a stretch to say that Ms. Marvel is the Spider-Man of her generation. Kamala Khan is the “everyman” that has won everyone’s hearts. And she’s finally joining the MCU.
Iman Vellani seems to capture Khan’s innocence and a film crew featuring directors from all walks of life should only add to the mystique of this series.
- Moon Knight
Expected release: 2022
Nothing spells intrigue like Marvel’s most misunderstood “superhero”. Think Marvel’s version of Batman, but crazier, weirder, and throw a splash of Egyptian mythology and some fantasy horror. That’s Moon Knight in a nutshell.
Even more interesting are news that fan favourite Oscar Isaac might star in the series. This would be the icing on a very tasty and a very filling cake.
