Roku Launching New Paid Streaming Service

Roku is launching a brand new streaming service called Howdy. The service which will cost $2.99 a month will offer library content from multiple Studios including Lionsgate, Warner Bros. Discovery and FilmRise, in addition to select Roku Original titles.

The low price will deliver customers ad-free television in an era where most ad-free anything is at least $10. Howdy though will is not a premium service in that at least as of right now it won’t be the exclusive place to watch anything. But it’s Content Library is nothing to shake a stick at. With partners like Warner Bros discovery, who doesn’t seem to shy away from putting its top properties on other services, this has potential to attract and entertain a lot of people.

This will be Roku’s third streaming service building off of the Roku Channel which launched years ago now and has become one of the most popular free services available on any platform and the recent purchase of FRNDLY.

It remains to be seen how much Roku will push the new service on to its customers or if it will be advertised on other platforms like the Roku Channel and FRDLY.
