Roku’s investment in new exclusive content has started to roll out in the form of Roku original programming on the Roku Channel. At the moment the content is borne out of its purchase of content from the failed mobile streaming service Quibi. The service which died on the vine in less than a year put millions into content production that it will never really cash in on. But Roku on the other hand will be able to showcase it and market it within its entire ecosystem.
Roku will not be sharing the entire haul of new content all at once but will be pushing out some of the most high profile titles right away. Among the early releases are Kevin Hart’s comedic story about training to become a action adventure leading man “Die Hart” as well as the buzzy “Most Dangerous Game”, a modern take on the Victorian era story where people are hunted for sport. Not to be confused with the Running Man where people are hunted as part of a game show.
The content will be free on the Roku channel which is found on Roku as well as numerous other partner platforms including Amazon Fire TV and Samsung smart TV’s.
