A classic PBS miniseries will be making its way to the US via the anglophile app Acorn TV. To celebrate its 25th Anniversary, Acorn TV adds the star-studded, ground-breaking miniseries TALES OF THE CITY on Monday, June 4, 2018. The series is Based on the ground-breaking novel by Armistead Maupin.

In the show (Laura Linney) plays Ann Singleton a woman who moves to 1970s San Francisco from Cleveland. Mary quickly realizes just how far from Cleveland she really is. She moves into a funky house at 28 Barbary Lane where her landlady (Olympia Dukakis) welcomes her with a joint. Mary Ann befriends the other residents and finds a good-natured home amid the drugs, drama, and debauchery. The series received universal acclaim when it debuted in 1993 in the U.K. and 1994 in the U.S. and remains a television landmark.

Netflix will be launching a revival of the show in 2019 so this is a good chance to see it and fall in love with it ahead of time so you can look forward to the update instead of wondering who everyone is and why they have all those seemingly inside jokes.

Other cast members include Gemini winner Paul Gross (Slings & Arrows), Billy Campbell(Cardinal, The Killing, Once and Again), Thomas Gibson (Criminal Minds), Parker Posey (Louie) and Ian McKellen (Lord of the Rings).
