Amazon sells its streaming devices at a very low price. It does this so that it can get people to buy into its ecosystem of Prime services and get people watching and clicking on ads through its interface as painlessly as possible. But today it made a mistake that discounted the new Fire TV 4K Max just a little bit too much. “Selected” Amazon customers were accidentally given a promo code that allowed them to buy the new device for $29.99. After the correction, the cost jumped to $34.99.
As savvy as Amazon’s marketing is, one almost has to wonder if this we just a way to get into the headlines without making a big splash announcement. Whatever Amazon lost during the time that the code was active could not be more than a drop in the bucket for a company owned by a man who goes space for fun.
