Amazon announced that the companies branded Omni TV’s will support AirPlay 2 which allows users to mirror Mac and iOS products to the TVs using Apple’s AirPlay functionality. The option will let users send video from any website and apps to the sets without the need for 3rd party or app support.
AirPlay has been a staple of Apple’s products since the second generation of the Apple TV box introduced the concept. The ability to mirror and even control content from a mobile device on a TV allows users to utilize the big screen for both entertainment and educational functions from business applications and presentation software without the need to connect anything to the TV.
The 65-inch and 75-inch models support Dolby Vision HDR, though there are also smaller 43-, 50-, and 55-inch sizes available with HDR10.
Amazon’s operating system also supports the Apple TV app which puts Apple’s TV and movie store on the system and allows access to the Apple TV+ streaming service. Apple software on Amazon TVs, Amazon Video apps on Apple TV boxes. We’ve come a long way baby.
