Amazon’s Secret Free Movie Service – The Streaming Advisor

Amazon’s Secret Free Movie Service

If you saw a lot of buzz last year about Amazon releasing an ad supported version of prime video and wondered why it never happened you might be looking in the wrong place. If you are wondering why we called this story Amazon’s secret free movie service its because Amazons free movie service is already there. The thing is that it’s not called Amazon prime video or Amazon free videos or anything of that sort. It’s called IMDb free drive. IMDB is an Amazon property, so it allowed the company to drop an app out there without being immediately identified with the company by name. The service showed up in January as a lot of tech companies were making major announcements quietly dropping onto Amazon Fire TV. The service features tons of movies broken up into categories though some are cross categorised in creative ways.

The service also features TV shows. Amazon adds new content to the service every month just like they do with the premium services. At the moment other platforms that support free drive do not include competitor devices like Roku or Apple TV. This is apparently a way to incentivize buying into the Amazon platform over others. In the same vein Amazon devices don’t support Roku channel. At least not officially.

I definitely expect to see this platform grow because it is going in the direction that the industry seems to be heading overall. While Amazon may not want to take away from their prime videos service finding a way to offer titles it has in its niche in this fashion provides a totally new revenue source. And as it grows it will give consumers more incentive to look into its branded products and even TV partners. Check out a the latest movies on the service below.
