Is Plex Shutting Down No Just The Plex Cloud What Is Plex Cloud?

Is Plex Shutting down? No. Variety recently reported that Plex is ending support for the Plex Cloud. What is the Plex Cloud. It is an interconnected network of cloud-based services that was integrated into Plex that allowed users to access video directly from the Internet instead of relying on having a local server (computer that is running Plex) in order to access video on the go.

Does This Mean I Can’t Get Plex Away From Home Now?

Users will still be able to access their own servers or those shared with them like they have been for years. It it unknown just how many people took advantage of it before its disappearance. This has been a feature of Plex almost since it launched. The Plex Cloud was just one method for accessing video.

Why Is Plex Dropping The Plex Cloud?

It has not been working out for Plex or its users. The Platform had been on maintenance already and proved to be a drain on the group’s recourses. Plex “While we are super bummed about the impact this will have on our happy Cloud users, ending support for it will allow us to focus on improving core functionality, adding new features and content, and delivering on our mission to provide a world-class product that we can all rely on and enjoy,” the company said Tuesday.

Plex has been developing into a multifaceted service adding features over time. In the past year plus Plex has added a news aggregator, and Podcasts to go along with other features like their photo sharing program, content channels and of course the core server functionality.
