Plex Will Let Users Play Video Games With New Update – The Streaming Advisor

Plex Will Let Users Play Video Games With New Update

Plex has been rolling out new features every couple of months. Lately they have been centered around commercially supported streaming of movies. The server though announced a totally new feature today that will allow users to play video games through Plex. It’s called Plex Arcade. Plex Arcade is powered by Atari and will feature a large catalog of games from the legendary game maker, which means they will be imminently playable but also not overly graphics hungry, to say the least.

In order to get the new feature users will have to have Plex Media Server downloaded on PCs running Windows or macOS. The game service also costs some cash. Plex Pass users can take a look at the service for $2.99 per month while the rest of the world can access it for $4.99 per month. Like most new services there is a 7 day trial period to see if you will enjoy it.

What Kind of controllers can you use?

Plex says game controllers work great! You can use any Bluetooth or USB game controller that is compatible with your device or use a keyboard for Chrome-based gaming. For best results, Plex recommends a Sony DualShock 4 or Xbox One controller.

Do you have to use a PC to play?
No. You can play the games on Android (mobile and TV), iOS, tvOS, and Chrome. But as stated earlier, to get started, grab the latest Plex Media Server build and create a new Games library, just like you would any of your existing media types. Then simply enjoy. Plex has partnered with Parsec, whose low-latency streaming technology makes fully playable game libraries within Plex possible as well as Atari, to provide a catalog of classic titles right out of the box – from Centipede to Lunar Lander and more
