Samsung TVs Now Have Apple TV App

Apple has released its app for Samsung TV’s as part of its expansion to other platforms first promoted at CES. But don’t be fooled by sloppy reporting that says “You can turn your Samsung TV into an Apple TV”. Those reports will surface. We break it down clearly here and in the video bellow.

What it does

The app is built to emulate much of what is found through the TV app found on Apple TV streaming boxes with some notable changes. The Apple TV app on Samsung TVs allows users to buy or rent content from Apple much like the iTunes app used to on Apple devices.

The Apple TV app on Samsung TV’s also provides access to content that is avaialable through its various partners. For Instance Starz has access to Spiderman Homecoming at the moment. So the Apple TV app provides a choice between purchasing the movie from Apple Or Watching it via Starz.

What it does not do

The Apple TV App for Samsung will not, on the other hand, link all of the smart TV apps on the Samsung TV into one interface in the way the TV app on Apple’s IOS and TVOS devices do. So if you are looking for a categorized grouping of programming from across Hulu and Crackle and Tubi etc you still need an Apple TV.
