If there is a true streaming war right now it is between the various live streaming services. Sling TV appears to rolling heavy amunition as it hopes to sweep up those who are leaving AT&T and losing their service with PlayStation Vue. It is offering start up level discounts on its services. New and returning customers can get the first month of Sling Orange or Sling Blue for only $5. The normal price is $30.00 they can even try out both for $20 saving $25.00 in the process. Afterwards of course they will pay regular price.
The move comes as there is a chance for substantial growth for live streaming services as major TV providers are shedding customers and some of their competitors are dying off.
Sling TV is even offering deep discounts on equipment for its services as well. If users do not already have a streaming player they can get one free with a commitment of 3 months. Those looking to make a commitment can get an AirTV 2 (the TV Tuner that converts OTA signals for streaming) , an AirTV Mini (the small Android TV player)and an indoor OTA antenna for $5 (normally $99 with an MSRP of $208). They are also offering more equipment, an AirTV 2, two AirTV Minis and an indoor OTA antenna for $55.
In general it appears that Sling TV is willing to put up equipment in the hopes that after a few months customers will feel comfortable going for the long haul.
Is this the last we will see from Streaming TV providers. Not Likely.
