Following up on threats to do so, the Trump administration will ban downloads of the popular social media and streaming app TikTok this Sunday. The action comes as allegations of the app being used to collect information on US citizens has raised concerns. The Commerce Department said that starting Sunday, any moves to distribute or maintain WeChat or TikTok on an app store will be prohibited.
Users who already have the app will still be able to use it, but they will be unable to update the app. One has to wonder if any major updates that disable the app would arrive that would threaten the huge US market for the app.
At the moment there has been no response from Google or Apple nor is there any announcement about the ban on the TikTok home page.
