AT&T reached out to its customers with a warning to watch out for scams that attempt to extort customers with the cancellation of their services if they do not make a payment immediately.
This kind of scam could appear to be from any service or company that one has worked with in the past. So aside from AT&T be on the lookout for the same type of thing claiming to be from the IRS, your cell provider or any other company that requires monthly billing.
The key to the scam is that the sender will typically ask for payment via a prepaid credit card or money order. This is because unlike a charge from a regular credit card you can’t just contact a company and get your money back.
So hold on to that money so you have it for Christmas and the rest of the year.
