Buzz TV X5 Super Sport Android TV Box – The Streaming Advisor

Buzz TV X5 Super Sport Android TV Box

The Buzz TV X5 Super Sport Android TV Box is an open system designed so that a user can make what they want of the system with no other TV service system built in. It utilizes Android OS 13 to give users access to Android TV apps through the Google Play store.

As has been the case for the past few years the X5 Super Sport defaults to the Google Play Store designed for TV apps as opposed to the mobile version of the Google Play Store which typically requires a user to have an air mouse or wireless keyboard in order to interact with the apps on a TV screen, save for a few exceptions.

This system allows users to have a more native TV experience that can be enjoyed with a normal TV remote. If there is a need for more elaborate accessories the box has ample space to add any peripherals the user prefers such as air mouse remotes etc. For those looking for a wireless solution aside from the two provided remotes the system supports Bluetooth 5.0.

Strong Specs For An Android Box

Besides the inclusion of Android OS 13  on the software side, the X5 Super Sport comes out of the box with 4GB DDR4 RAM and 128GB eMMC storage. That’s a substantial amount of storage, such as one would find in a middle to higher end tablet. It’s CPU, the Amlogic S905X4 Quad-core 64bit Cortex-A55 provides support for sharp 4k video images.

Speed Test

Using my home wifi, which in our case is AT&T Fiber we achieved a download speed of 181 Mbps. Its max speed on our network is 300 Mbps so it didn’t hit at the mid range, For Instance my galaxy A13 phone for instance pulled in 290 Mbps and my Samsung Chromebook topped out at 100 Mbps. The power allows the device to do the things a mobile device needs to do as far as providing enough power to stream in 4k and download apps and updates. It’s not supposed to be a high-end gaming PC after all.

The X5 SS features a USB 1.0 port, a USB 3.0 port and a Mini SD Card slot.

Ports

The x5 Super Sport has multiple physical connection ports including a LAN : 100/1000M, USB2.0 : 1, USB3.0 : 1, MicroSD : 1, Optical Audio : 1, Power Interface : 1 and a HDMI 2.1 (CEC) : 1. The unit we received came with a power adapter and a USB 3.0 cord so we used that to power the unit. It did not ship with an AC power cord. The provided ports allow users to plug in multiple devices without need for a USB hub as well as providing for expansion via USB Hard drives and Micro SD cards.

No built-in media player software

The X5 SS does not ship with any proprietary media players or IPTV services installed or linked. It also does not have its own app store for downloading anything outside of what can be found via the Google Play store and the Aptoide TV store. The device does have Disney+, Pluto TV, the Analiti Speed Test, an App Installer (which is basically a file explorer), an over-the-air update ap, a smart remote app to tweak the settings of the remote and the Amazon video app. All of these are TV-friendly versions of the apps. Curiously it also includes the Android mobile version of Netflix. I guess they felt they needed to say it had Netflix even if it doesn’t function well with the included remote.

Some apps can not be added

While I was hardly going to try and sideload every single Android TV app the world I did attempt to add Netflix and Peacock, which were absent from the Google Play Store. Neither program would open on the device.

Prebuilt for personal services

While the K5 SS does not come preloaded with any specialized services it set up with portals to add live TV via M3U lists, MAC Server Ids, and XC API Login. Accessing the services is up to the user.

Should I get the Buzz TV X5 Super Sport TV Box?

This product is powerful and stylish and has the ability to deliver any number of services with some notable exceptions. It is a great solution as an additional media player for light gaming and adding programs that you can’t find on most smart TV systems. Because it supports Android TV apps and has the built-in tools to access 3rd party services without additional APK downloads it makes for a good option for more tech-savvy users or those looking to build out their own custom product. It is not a product for a beginner, but for someone who has a decent understanding of Android apps and needs solid power and performance to put it all together, this makes for an elegant solution.
