CNN+ Already Shutting Down

CNN+ Wishes it was Quibi. one month. That’s what the lifetime $2.99 early bird pricing got early adopters, all 6 of them. OK I made that number up. But when news broke that the service was averaging 10,000 viewers a day eyebrows were raised.

CNN announced that the streaming service is shutting down on April 30 is what an only be described as a total debacle and failure. In today’s combined world I might call it a Failbacle. The service was heavily hyped for months ahead of a totally botched launch hat saw the service unavailable on Roku and other major connected TV platforms.

Users will receive “prorated refunds of subscription fees,” according to the company.

The announcement came with a statement that The prior management team’s vision for CNN+ runs counter to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s plan to house all of the company’s brands under one streaming service.

“In a complex streaming market, consumers want simplicity and an all-in service which provides a better experience and more value than stand-alone offerings, and, for the company, a more sustainable business model to drive our future investments in great journalism and storytelling,” Discovery’s streaming boss J.B. Perrette said in a statement.

Some of its programming will move to the linear TV service.

What does this mean for Chris Wallace? Will Anybody be talking to Chris?

According to CNN, CNN CEO Chris Licht notified staffers of the decision in a meeting on Thursday afternoon calling it a “uniquely shitty situation.”
