Predictions For Apple’s Tuesday Event

Many predictions from the Internet of things will be wrong

It’s no longer a cottage industry. Just making things up and saying that they will probably happen is mainstream. Because of this, there are mountains of predictions about the future of Apple products. There are sites dedicated to rumors about Apple. So don’t be too surprised when there is not a fancy new Apple TV or the latest supercomputer that will replace the iMac Pro is not announced.

A new Apple TV with a new remote

Expect Apple to update the Apple TV. The hopes that it will include a near field mic and home pod capabilities are probably too much to ask, but the company may roll out a new remote for the product. If Apple TV is featured you should also expect to hear more about the TV app. Not Apple TV+ mind you, but the TV app that integrates services together. There is probably a new partnership to announce. But don’t expect the new product to be industry-altering.

Apple will cherry pic viewer numbers around Apple TV+

Everybody who bought an Apple product in the past year has a one-year subscription to Apple TV+. Apple sells a lot of computers, tablets, and phones. So Apple TV+ has a lot of potential customers. Apple has even extended free previews of the service. Apple has not disclosed how many people actually decided independently to subscribe to the service. In other words, how many people have subscribed to Apple’s $5.00 per month service on a Roku or Samsung TV. You will hear about hours watched without a comparison to numbers from competing products. Maybe the numbers will be couched with Apple’s services category growth of %______ in their services, etc. But you will not hear how much of a market share the service has. Because compared to the big guns it will not be favorable.

The products will be called the “BEST EVER”

Every new iPhone or iPad or new chicken sandwich for that matter is touted as the reinvention of the wheel. So you can be sure that no matter how little difference there is between the last generation of any product featured tomorrow and the new one, someone will act like the latest version is some kind of unprecedented leap forward. The people who buy the newest version may even swear by it. But the average consumer will not be able to tell a big difference.

There will be videos demonstrating features that most consumers will never even think of using

Apple loves to show videos of people using their products in incredibly unusual and exciting ways. Even though most people use them to watch YouTube videos, take pictures, check email and get on Facebook. And don’t forget about navigation. But you will see people using them in space, studying dark matter, annalizing lava flows of volcanos or something, that again almost nobody walking into a Best Buy or Walmart would ever contemplate nor will they turn around and do so after the video.

5G

Now that most of its competitors already advertise 5G phones it’s time for Apple to get into that game. But the truth is that 5G networks are nowhere close to being the kind of transformative innovations that they will eventually be. But there will probably be a new iPhone that touts it along with a corporate partner like Verizon or AT&T.

Some of their products will be updated and also be slightly faster than before

It won’t knock you over, but the products will get a better screen or a faster CPU marketed as the best yet in the industry. Which ones will get the update. Probably the iPhone because it is a bread and butter product. There is a ton of buzz around Apple’s air pods. Maybe there will be a new more water-resistant version. Maybe oh maybe a new iPad pro with a place to store the Apple Pencil so that you don’t lose it in your bag.

Critics will call the announcement a disappointment

Tim Cook will be criticized for not being Steve Jobs. Unrealistic expectations not being fulfilled will lead people to say it was not worth the hype. And the countdown will begin for the Apple Developer conference with a long list of imaginary new product announcements to anticipate.
