Roku announced its earnings this week revealing that it made more from its ventures outside of its well-regarded media players. Multichannel News reports that Roku’s Platforms division upped tits profits 106%, to $75.1 million, while Player-related revenue fell 3%, to $61.5 million. The company saw a 36% gain in total revenue.
While the general public thinks of Roku as a company that makes little black boxes that hook up to a TV the company has been expanding far past that model for years. It sells on-screen advertising through its platform, has revenue sharing agreements with apps and licenses its platform to numerous TV manufacturers.
