ESPN+ picked up another major soccer league to add to its already substantial soccer presence on the streaming service with the addition of the Scottish Premiership to MLS, UEFA. The service will be the home of the Scottish professional league for the next 5 years singling that the rest of the sports world better start taking note of ESPN+ as a player for eyeballs from the beautiful game. The service offers lots of content across the sports world but a number of other sports services have gravitated to soccer as they look for live content to build a brand. Scottish Premiership had previously been available via the Bleacher Report B/R Live service.
NBC Sports is home to Premier League soccer and BEIN sports has a heavy soccer presence. If ESPN wants to be the home of Soccer in the US the other pay services will have a deep pocketed competitor in the space. World Soccer Talk has pointed out that the broadcast rights to the Scottish Premiership have been with a number of outlets over the past many years including Fox Soccer Channel, FS1, FS2, FOX Soccer 2GO, FOX Soccer Plus before its time on B/R Live.
With ESPN+ making a commitment to the league the $5.99 service will continue to make the case the the platform, which tippled its subscribers this past year, can be the home of a major league.
