Shield Upgrade adds Alexa and Google Home Controls Amazon Music and More

The NVIDIA Shield has become the first set-top box to be able to integrate Alexa and Google Home on one device. The surprising new detail is part of a new update for the Shield TV that rolled out last week. This means that no matter what leading smart home system you might use the console can hear you. Alexa is not the only Amazon Perk being added to the Shield TV. Amazon Music is joining the platform giving Prime users access to a really excellent music source with both a massive free selection and an inexpensive premium option.

The SHIELD upgrade also includes updates to YouTube that adds 5.1 surround sound and Dolby Atmos support for Amazon Prime. The SHIELD TV is the first streaming media player to include this.

It’s not just the behemoth apps that got upgraded this time around. NVIDIA also upgraded the Vudu app so that users can take advantage of more channels, it added the DC Universe app as well as the Pokemon App, Tubi TV, and DAZN. ]

The release of SHIELD Experience Upgrade 7.2 also adds new operational features . Users will now have support for SMBv3, when connecting SHIELD to a NAS or PC. Users will be able to customize Quick Settings and can turn on auto-updates.

The update is free and can be added via an automatic prompt or in settings.
