Tegna, a major broadcast company with channels coast to coast announced in its earning call that its streaming apps for Roku and Fire TV have recorded over a billion minutes of watch time over so far in 2022. The apps, which are built for individual channels are a resource for local news for cord-cutters and streaming enthusiasts who take advantage of live streaming and replays to stay in touch with local happenings and weather.
Users can often find apps for local news channels by searching for the station’s call letters. For instance in the Raleigh Area where we live a search for WRAL finds the local NBC affiliate news app. Though not a Tegna channel the concept is much the same.
The news apps though are not a portal to national news broadcasts or live network programming.
