If you get your information from multiple press outlets, you would be led to believe that a new TV network appeared out of the blue this week. That “TV channel” is Trump TV. Trump TV is not a TV channel. It is a YouTube Channel. Yet much of the reporting about Trump TV makes mention of ratings and that it is a failing TV channel. This is nonsense and poor reporting.
The media has an important job. At its best, it is a vital part of our democracy. At its worst, it is a hindrance. Often, what one group considers truth and what another group considers misinformation and “Fake News” is up to personal bias, and that happens no matter where you stand. But sometimes this is not the case. And every time reporters get facts objectively wrong, it harms the credibility of the industry and our country.
Too many outlets are just copying and pasting phrasing. Stories say Trump launched a new tv network. And as I stated earlier, Trump TV is not a TV channel. It can’t be found on your cable package or your streaming package, unless YouTube TV has added it. Trump TV is a YouTube channel and is available via the White House website.
The press needs to do better or it will further erode the shaky trust it has left.
