Comcast’s Watchable Can’t Compete With YouTube

0 702

Comcast should be commended. You will not see me say that often on this website but I marvel at how the message about Watchable has been disseminated. Multiple media outlets are reporting on Comcast’s new YouTube competitor. Well I have new for everyone. Watchable can’t compete with YouTube. It is not the same kind of service in the least bit. YouTube is both a corporate and user based content distributor with countless millions of users creating and uploading unique content every minute of the day. Watchable on the other hand is being teased as a way for specific companies to funnel curated content into the homes of Comcast customers via its latest set top box and through the Xfinity Apps. While YouTube is home to everything from professionally produced video a large part of its popularity is the random happenings that get caught on camera and shared through the platform and that is what will be missing from Comcasts service. The lack of access for those not in the Comcast ecosystem is also a drawback.  The service is not going to have national or world-wide reach. In general I believe it is a value added service for existing customers and another revenue stream for the company nothing more.
